The California Business & Industrial Alliance (CABIA) launched a new ad in USA Today calling out Governor Gavin Newsom for “embarrassing California” and ignoring the state’s crises in favor of social media grandstanding.

The ad reacts to the Governor’s ongoing social media frenzy and shows Newsom sporting a clown costume, holding up a smartphone, and features a mock X post saying “Gavin, your tweets are embarrassing California. Stop acting like a #CLOWN.”
CABIA’s new ad aims to hold Newsom accountable, reading: “It’s time for Gavin to get offline and get back to work.” The ad cites California’s numerous struggles, including the rising cost of living, destroyed homes from the recent devastating fires, and out of control trial lawyers targeting the state’s businesses.
Tom Manzo, president and founder of CABIA, released the following statement on the ad:
“Newsom’s behavior is an embarrassment to California. Instead of clowning around on social media, he should prioritize the very real concerns of his constituents. Under his watch, our state has become an even worse place to live and do business. Californians need a Governor, not an Influencer.”
