Today, the California Business and Industrial Alliance (CABIA) ran a full-page ad in Roll Call criticizing AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka for his endorsement and defense of embattled California Labor Chief and President Biden Labor Nominee Julie Su. The two are described as a “nightmare match” where “the only guaranteed losers are American workers.”
You can see the ad here.
On Julie Su’s watch, unemployment insurance fraud in California topped $11 billion. But as the ad states, “The real madness this March? Richard Trumka and the AFL-CIO still endorsed her for the #2 position at the Labor Department.”
The ad comes in response to Trumka, who attacked CABIA indirectly last week, suggesting it is an organization “desperate to preserve the economic status quo.”
Julie Su’s track record in California speaks for itself: She is not qualified to lead at the Department of Labor, especially as the country struggles to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Richard Trumka’s endorsement of Su is as shameful as it is irresponsible. If he really cared about workers, he would encourage Congress to reject Su in favor of someone who is actually up to the task.
CABIA has been a vocal critic of Su’s nomination, taking out full-page ads in the Wall Street Journal and USA Today, as well as releasing a report on Su’s mismanagement of CA’s UI system, and a video documenting Su’s failed leadership.
